The number of Romanian nationals living in the United Kingdom in 2017 was estimated at 411,000, an increase of 25% since 2016.
However, Romanians are not the largest immigrant group in the UK. This honor belongs to the Poles, of whom there are 1 million Polish citizens in the United Kingdom, as reported by The Guardian, quoting figures provided last week by the National Office of Statistics.
In 2017, the total number of non-British nationals living in the United Kingdom was 6.2 million, an increase of 4% from the 6 million recorded in 2016. 61% (3.8 million) of these non-British nationals living in the United Kingdom in 2017 were of European nationality. If one adds in foreigners who have obtained British nationality, the figure rises to 9.4 million, or 200,000 more than the previous year.
