The South African parliament approved by an overwhelming majority a motion to expropriate the land of white farmers without compensation that was introduced by the radical opposition leader, Julius Malema.
It passed in a vote of 241 to 83 on Tuesday, following the election of President Cyril Ramaphosa to replace Jacob Zuma in February.
Mr. Malema said that “the time for reconciliation is over. Now comes the time of justice,” as reported by News24.
Mr. Malema has long been committed to confiscating land without compensation. In 2016, he told his supporters that he “does not call for white slaughter – for now.”
