Two attacks on police officers were carried out in two separate episodes. Yesterday, 109 migrants from Tunisia arrived at the port of Pozzallo. After docking was completed, one officer was hit after defending a humanitarian worker who had been insulted by a migrant.
The second took place shortly after another Tunisian tried to escape from the hospital, where he had been taken to be checked for a suspected illness. An officer arrested him, and he was then attacked by three other migrants who beat him and broke his nose. The officer was given 30 days of sick leave to recover.
On Facebook, the union for police officers, Italia Celere, published the image of one of the two officers who had been attacked. “The men of the department perform their daily assignments with a high sense of duty,” their statement said. Denouncing the attacks, the organization said, “These migrants fight against anyone with whom they come into contact.” They further expressed outrage and said that they are waiting on the authorities to take action.
