NoBorders activists and migrants force police intervention in the Alps (Update: two have been arrested for “giving assistance to the entry of foreigners in an irregular situation into the national territory in an organized group”.)

Two people were arrested and placed in custody in the Hautes-Alpes region after assisting in illegally bringing thirty migrants into the country from Italy on Sunday afternoon.

According to a source close to the investigation, these two men, including a foreign national, “actively participated in the illegal entries that occurred at the Montgenèvre pass,” when about 100 French and Italian activists crossed the border there accompanied by about 30 migrants.

The prosecutor’s office in the town of Gap confirmed “several arrests,” adding that the accused were in custody for “giving assistance to the entry of foreigners in an irregular situation into the national territory in an organized group.”
