Elbeuf, France: A disabled man was beaten to death for refusing to give a cigarette to 4 men of African origin; the Secretary of State says he is “shocked and indignant”

A 61-year-old man died in a hospital on Sunday, March 4 after being assaulted in a supermarket parking lot in Elbeuf, Normandy.

The man, who was handicapped and walking on crutches, left the supermarket located on Rue du Neubourg and was then approached by a group of four men of African origin who asked him for a cigarette. When the man refused, they began to beat him. One of the attackers hit him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, and he was then kicked in the back.

On Friday, victim’s condition had not improved, and he finally called for help and was hospitalized. On Sunday, he died, probably as a consequence of the injuries he had received the previous Monday.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
