Cologne, Germany: Police say they foiled an attempt by terrorists to construct a weapon of mass destruction

Holger Münch, President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, reported today that an attack that was to be carried out using a weapon of mass destruction, a bomb containing ricin poison gas, was foiled following the arrest last week of a Tunisian in Cologne.

“In this case there were concrete preparations to carry out an attack using a type of chemical weapon, and this is unprecedented in Germany,” Münch said on German public radio, adding that the suspect had already started to produce ricin before his arrest.
