A very agitated man who has been identified in the media only as “Jonathan” went to a pizzeria, not far from his home, shirtless and in shorts, to confront his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, who had allegedly struck the mailbox in front of his home with a scooter belonging to the pizzeria. Upon entering the establishment, Jonathan demanded to see this man, who is an employee at the restaurant. When they refused, Jonathan threatened the manager and another employee with a machete, screaming, “I’m going to kill you! I’m going to burn you! By the Qur’an, I’m going to kill you!”
Upon leaving the restaurant, Jonathan knocked over a parked scooter, and also threw chairs from the terrace against its windows.
The police were called and Jonathan was promptly arrested. When asked, “What are your impressions of police custody?” he answered, “On the first day, they pumped tear gas into my cell. It wasn’t nice. On the second day, I covered the camera with my clothes, so they took my mattress and blanket. I had to sleep on the floor until they gave them back to me. Then I asked to see a doctor, but he never came.”
