Jair Bolsonaro, a far-right presidential candidate in Brazil was stabbed in a campaign rally. Mr. Bolsorano is running for president in the elections in October and he has taken the lead recently in the opinion polls. His son Flavio claimed that his condition was stable.
According to Brazil’s highest electoral authority, Adélio Bispo de Oliveira, the perpetrator of the attack, is not currently affiliated to any political party. He was, however, a member of the left-wing Socialism and Liberty Party until 2014. On social media, Mr. Bispo de Oliveira published several posts criticizing Mr. Bolsonaro, as well as spreading conspiracy theories in connection to freemasonry. The president of the Federation of Federal Police Agents stated that after restraining Mr. Bispo de Oliveira, the officers on the scene “had doubts about his psychological integrity.”
